Yderst Europe -Facing the sea.
A portrait of the European Coast.
Yderst Europe (YE) is an interdisciplinary project supported by the EU Commissions programme Creative Europe, with partners in Norway, Belgium and France. YE explores our contemporary relationship with the ocean and Europe’s transactions with the sea.
Kristina R. Johnsen is the project creator, applicant and developer alongside photojournalist Sébastien Van Malleghem (Renegades, Belgium)
Yderst Europe advocates space in the media for geographically compromised areas, native voices, coastal areas and communities.
Yderst means outermost or the end in Northern Norwegian dialect, similar to the Breton languages’ Penn-ar-bed - meaning the end of the land - and the island of Avalon legend in ancient Celtics’ mythology .
How do we tell a good story? The project innovates with book production (Atelier EXB (Paris) and Utenfor Allfarvei Forlag (Harstad, Norway), on-stage performances (Bozar, Brussels, Arles Photo Festival, La Ferme du Buisson Paris), animations, article series and visual arts.
Partners are Vesterålen Kultursamarbeid, LIVE Magazine Paris and Renegades Agency (Brussels), with Nikon Europe associated partner
